FAQs

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy aims to help individuals understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours; it supports in the development of healthy coping strategies to treat challenges and symptoms relating to mental health. Psychotherapy assists in healing and improving well-being by eliminating or controlling troubling symptoms. There are several reasons why people start psychotherapy. Some of these reasons include:

  • Support through life changes (job loss, move, divorce, the death of a loved one)

  • Resolving conflicts

  • Relieving stress

  • Anxiety (general, OCD, phobia, PTSD)

  • Managing mood and unhealthy reactions

  • Personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic)

  • Mood disorders (depression, bipolar)

  • Sleep issues

  • Recovering from abuse

  • Unhappiness

  • Low self-esteem/confidence

What can I expect during the consultation?

We will provide you with the information necessary to access the video conferencing program before the consultation. We will ask you some questions about what brings you (or your child/adolescent) to therapy, what are the hopes and goals you have to get out of therapy, provide information on our approach and answer any questions that you may have. This is when we will discuss insurance coverage, session rate, and scheduling.

How often and for how long should I expect to attend therapy?

The answer to this is different for everyone. Some people start therapy with a specific short-term goal in mind and it may only take a few sessions to achieve that goal. Other people are looking for long-term support through different stages of their lives. How often you attend sessions is up to you. Whatever works for you - works for us. It's most common to attend sessions more frequently at the beginning and then start to space sessions out once progress is noticed.

What is the cancellation fee?

Your appointment time is reserved for you and you alone. The cancellation policy is in place to support the continuity of our work and commitment to the process of therapy. If you are unable to provide at least 24 hours notice when you cancel or if you miss your appointment, you will be charged a $50 fee.
